Port 80/8080 for the communication setting EC 5.1

Hi

We are using Sophos EC 4.5.0.9  in our network and the Update managers have stopped updating. Our updates are pulled from our head office through the Source settings( through a http link) in the enterprise console.

Iam going to leave the old installation(EC 4.5.0.9 ) on the old server as it is and  I have started a fresh installation of  the EC 5.1 version on a new server,  because the head office says they have not tested the EC 5.2 version.

During the installation  EC i  have come to a communication setting  window asking;

Please enter the port to connect to the Management server .

Enter the port that the management Console will use to connect to the magament server using HTTP.

The default port is 80.

Iam not sure , Is the management server referring to the head office sophos server where the sophos updates are pulled?

Iam bit confused with the port 80/8080.Will i be able to see this port settings from my old installation.

Also will it cause any problem with the fresh installation on a new server with the old EC server alive.

Any prerequesties ?

Please suggest. Any tutrorials as how to go about for this fresh install will really great.

Thanks

  • HI,

    The request for a port in SEC 5.0 onwards is detailed here:

    http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/114182.aspx

    It's for management rather than updating.  If the clients have the patch agent installed they will communicate to the management server on this port to send in reports and to obtain patch definitions.  Also Enterprise console connects to this port on the management server (local or remote consoles) to obtain data for Web Control Events, Auditing (5.2.0+) , Patch, Encryption and a few other things.

    Regards,

    Jak
