Dell Latitude 10 Tablet Wifi Issue after installing Endpoint Protection

Hi!

I have a few Dell Latitude 10 ST2E tablets that are running Windows 8.1

The entire school district runs Sophos Endpoint Protection but when installed on these tablets the tablet's network card goes down on reboot.  It will show a red X and say 'unavailable'.  To bring the network back I need to go into the device manager then disable and reenable the card.  This has been going on since last year so I uninstalled Sophos and let Windows Defender protect it.  Now that school is out for the summer I finally have time to tackle the problem.

We are not using the Sophos Firewall so I am not sure how Endpoint protection affects the network card.  The latest version of SEP I tried yesterday was 10.3.7 and the network card is a 'Broadcom 802.11abgn Wireless SDIO Adapter'  using the Broadcom driver version 5.93.97.95 published 12/3/2012.  I have tried changing the driver before with no difference.

I have also posted on the EduGeek forums about this which led me to Sophos in the first place so it seems that others have this probelm too.

Any help would be great, thanks!

  • There's no dumb questions!  I have never heard of Device Control before, but I searched on the Enterprise Console under Events-> Device Control Events and didn't see anything show up in the last 24 hours.  I am going to try and push Endpoint Protection again, restart and see if it triggers anything.  I know we had a problem whenever Internet Explorer was updated we would need to add "Internet Explorer 11" or whatever to the aplication control, maybe Device Control works the same way.

I also don't see any triggered event s in Web Control (which I assume is the same as Web Intelligence) but I'll check that too.

    Thanks for the ideas QC!
