because the SEC uses sans-serif typeface, i can't tell if it's SqmbeDisk or SgmbeDisk -- but neither yields any Google search results. does anybody know what device this is?
current policy is set to detect and 'block' (but just log, not actually block) floppy drives, optical drives, removable storage/secure removable storage, bluetooth, and infrared; everything else is set to 'full access.' the error appears on three different hardware setups, two different laptops and one desktop. none of the endpoints have floppies, the optical drives are deteced without issue, there's no removable storage connected, and the bluetooth adapters are detected without issue. by process of elimination, can i assume this is an infrared device? it might be helpful to know some common infrared device examples.
i'm wondering if the errors will go away if i set infrared back to 'full access.' that's what i plan to try next, but i'd still like to know what type of device to which this error refers (and keep infrared devices blocked).
the full text of the error reads, "The on-access driver could not check device control for volume \Device\S[]mbeDisk" and points to this (dead) KB link referring to error code e03d0301.
