newb question

We just purchased Sophos suite for web, email, and endpoint protection.  I'm excited to move forward with rolling this product out but at the same time i'm a bit hesitant.  We're currently using Symantec for our endpoint protection and I've not been impressed with the years that i've used it.  The old Symantec AV was a huge resource hog and the release of the Endpoint solution was nice to see that the amount of memory they used to use dropped.  But that was not with issues and 12.1 i'm finding has its own bugs to deal with.  Contact tech support is like pulling teeth and something that i dread with every ounce of my being...

Now, we're looking at rolling out Sophos and I have a the trail Endpoint installed on my laptop for testing.  My concern now is the amount of memory that Sophos is using.  130 megs????

My concern comes from the fact that i'm a systems admin working for a local county government and our computers arent the greatest and far from the fastest around.  A lot of the PC/laptops are really dated, 5+ years and some only have 1 gig of memory.  For those of you out there that have a similar scenario how has it worked for you?  Does the final endpoint actually take this much memory when its controlled by the management console?

Thanks

  • Hello Greg,

the 130MB are a "normal" value. While we have beefed up most older machines to 2GB RAM there are still some around with only 1GB and they work normally (at least if they have problems they have them with or without Sophos :smileywink:).
