Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux 9.2.2 updating issues

Hi,

I've installed the trial of this product on an Ubuntu 12.04 LTS x64 client using the install folder from the SophosUpdate directory created on my Windows 7 Enterprise Console server.

It's installed great and I can see the client on the Enterprise Console screen. To test updating for my linux client I set up a simple apache server listening on 8080 on the SophosUpdate directory (sub-folders being /CIDs and /Warehouse). My Windows clients have no problem updating from this location (http://win7enterpriseconsole.{domain}:8080/) but when I add that update path via bin/savsetup and run savupdate I get the following errors:

Downloading http://win7enterpriseconsole.{domain}:8080/server.inf
Downloading http://win7enterpriseconsole.{domain}:8080/savlinux/server.inf
Downloading http://win7enterpriseconsole.{domain}:8080/sdds:SOPHOS/server.inf
Failed to replicate from http://win7enterpriseconsole.{domain}:8080/
Failed to replicate from all update sources

Any thoughts?

Also another issue I'm having that I would love to test and thus prove this product should be bought by my company is Linux clients accepting policy complicance/replication for things like Update Policy. Unfortunately when I right click on a linux client in the Enterprise Console those options are all greyed out. The only interaction I have available is to execute a full system scan from the console on the linux client.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Dwake

  • Hello Dwake,

first of all, if your Apache publishes \SophosUpdate then the update path should be http://win7enterpriseconsole.{domain}:8080/CIDs/S000/savlinux (although it does, as you can see, make another attempt with /savlinux appended you must at least point it to the specific subscription - S000 in my example which is the default).

Furthermore it won't find server.inf in a CID managed by the console (this is used for Linux-only installations where the CID is hosted by a Linux server) - please see Abhijit's post

From those options are all greyed out I assume that you Linux client did report to the console but is still in the Unassigned group. This group has no policies assigned to it (hence the name). You likely installed by mounting the CID so you can access the update location using smb: and there's in principle no need to use HTTP. Nevertheless, whichever protocol you prefer chapter 3.1 in the Enterprise Console startup guide for Linux, NetWare and UNIX lists the necessary steps for a first time install (seems you've not performed steps 5.-8. - perhaps you've read one of the SAV for Linux manuals instead of the mentioned Console guide).
