Migrating Macintosh computers to a new console server.

Hi,

Wonder if anyone can help me.

Our customer have an existing version 4.7 console server, and their client machines are all Macintosh computers.

We installed a new version of console server (ver 5) to a new hardware and was planning to migrate all the Macintosh computers to the new server. We tried to look for a migration procedure from the migration guide and knowledgebase but could not find any reference.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Al

  • Hello Al ,

automatic install (aka Protect computers) is not available for Mac OS X. The Macs have to be reprotected manually (note that just pointing them to the new update location would not reinitialize RMS - guess this has not changed with SAV for Mac version 8 - so while the would continue to update you'd lose the ability to manage them).

  • Hi Christian,

    Thanks for the quick response.

We'll do as you instructed. The current verion of SAV installed is SAV for MAC version 7.

Do you know of a script that I can use to push the uninstallation of existing SAV

and push the installation of the new SAV mpkg?

    Thanks and regards,

    Al

  • Hello Al ,

(explicit) uninstallation should not be necessary. As to running the installer automatically - guess without any additional software which allows central management of the Macs this is not possible (otherwise it would already have been implemented). Any other method I am aware of would require to touch each Mac to implement it - and this would likely require more work than just running the installer for this one-time effort.
