NCTEST OpenKiosk False Positive

The state of North Carolina mandantes us to use this piece of software. We deployed it and tested it and had no Sophos detections. Going into the Thanksgiving holidays. Coming back on Monday. Testing is in full effect.... NOT. The program executable nctopenkiosk.exe is detected as Mal/Generic-S and cleaned up. Submitted the file to VirusTotal and Sophos is not the only one detecting this as malware ( https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/2c6e9113336a93f8697071c659d9e1a8d7e8f5b44d240a56d67dab17d3942b07/analysis/1385994214 ).

Submitted the file to Sophos Labs and as a quick fix excluded the file from being scanned.

Anyone else seeing this in North Carolina? We can't we the only ones.

  • SophosLabs fixed it within 76 minutes

Mal/Generic-S detection for nctopenkiosk was removed.

Now all we have to do is cleanup the mess by re-deploying the software.

    What a Monday.

    Anyone else affected by this?
