Update Sources; Update Failed Error Messages

Hi Guys,

I'm sure some of you have encountered this before.

The primary update source is set to the local update server, with Sophos being a secondary source.

A laptop gets taken offsite, and can't reach the local source, so the user gets an update failed popup message.

It then updates from Sophos and everything is fine.

Is there no way to stop the misleading popup message?

It seems like the type of false positive error message that shouldn't be around after 10 versions.

  • Hi Christian,

I can understand why it would be perceived that this behaviour is correct.
The machine was unable to update the RMS so the warning pops up.

However with laptops that are offsite, we don't really care about this.
When we do have a policy change to make, we will have users connect up a vpn connection so it will go through.

Ideally we would like to have a separate update policy applying to offsite laptops that we would have the option to suppress the popup dialog.

I would prefer to not have to implement webcid's as this would open up our update servers to the internet.
If it's the only option, then I suppose we'll need to consider it.
