WebCID IIS log; machine name is now a GUID since V9.5

Hi Everyone,

I have a WebCID that I use to act as a secondary update location and also supports the home computers of our members of staff, as permitted by the Sophos licence agreement.

I have always monitored the usage of this WebCID by way of the computer name that appears in the IIS log for the WebCID.

However, since deploying Sophos V9.5 last week, I notice that the the computer name in the IIS log has been repaced by a GUID.  Here is an example:

Prior to and during upgrade to Sophos V9.5:

2011-02-21 18:18:03 192.168.159.13 GET /sophos/CIDs/S000/SAVSCFXP/savxp/cidsync.upd - 80 W8-DMZ1\SophosUpdate x.x.x.x <UA+u="SophosUpdate"+c="Steve-PC"/> 200 0 0 46

After upgrade to Sophos V9.5:

2011-02-22 20:33:23 192.168.159.13 GET /sophos/CIDs/S000/SAVSCFXP/savxp/cidsync.upd - 80 W8-DMZ1\SophosUpdate x.x.x.x SophosAutoUpdate/2.5.5.231+SDDS/1.0+(u="SophosUpdate"+c="7a9a493e-a5a3-43cb-889b-1691e6612bd9") 200 0 0 0

Both these requests come from the same IP address (of my own home computer) and so they are the same computer.

Does anyone know why this change has occurred?  This change will make it very hard to track WebCID installations and updates in the future.

Best Regards,

Steve

  • I have no idea how the GUID is derived (and how to map it to a computer) but I never really cared. Seems no one has taken this to Support yet (or if, no article has been written - at least I know of none).
