How to Clean Virus from Endpoint Security Manually

1.I have a number of virus stack in my quarantine and only option is - No action (Manual Clean up required). What steps should I take to clean manually?

2.What does "Authorise" means? Should I authorise?

3.I currently use End Pont Version 9.5. A friend bought and we shared but he couldn't just remember the specific details and the email he used. Please is there any way I can take the details from the product properties to enable me upgrade to Version 10?

  • Hello Patience,

Sophos licenses to businesses only. So I wonder how and where your friend could have bought?
Did you read the Help? It should answer most of your questions and also explain how to look up a threat's analysis and cleanup instructions.

  • You need to make sure:

    1. The installation has updated recently.
    2. Clear all items out of the quarantine manager (select all and clear from the list).  Sounds odd, but you want to flush things out now to get a clear picture later on.  Don't worry, anything still there after the next step will be reported again.
    3. Do a full scan as detailed in article 61665 - not a 'Scan my computer' scan.  Make sure automatical cleanup is on as advised in the article.
    4. Go back into the quarantine manager and see what is left.  A reboot may be required for some items.

Anything that say manual cleanup means click on the details, find out what item on your computer has been reported and where it is, and manually delete the item (go find it in Windows Explorer).  It may be a dll, .exe, temporary files (that was only there during the scan but isn't there any more), or a registry key.

Once you've got rid of all the items, or even if you couldn't find them all repeat steps 1 to 4 again to find out what is still being reported.

If things are still being reported (after a second full scan) post the scan log:

    Vista+: C:\ProgramData\Sophos\Sophos Anti-Virus\Logs \<nameOfScan>

    XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sophos\Sophos Anti-Virus\logs\ <nameOfScan>
