SEC 9.5 - is this a 32-bit Application?

Hi

We are running Sophos EndPoint Security & Control 9.5 and when we install the Sophos AV client onto a Windows 7 64-bit PC it installs into the Program Files (x86) directory which suggests it is a 32-bit application?  Is this correct?

If so, is it ok to use a 32-bit antivirus application on a 64-bit OS?

Are the newer versions such as SEC 9.5 64-bit applications?

  • Hello Alesupper,

this is correct. It wouldn't install on an unsupported OS anyway. That it is (mainly) a 32bit application is no problem and 64bit versions of components are installed where required.

As it is not necessary that it is 64bit having just one version of most components reduces development and maintenance costs. So it's unlikely we'll see a full 64bit version before the major part of the client population is running 64bit.
