Firewall Error - e0010101 Firewall cannot be configured

HI all,

we are getting the following error only on Notebooks:

e0010101 Firewall konnte nicht konfiguriert werden = e0010101 Firewall cannot be configured

I have opened a case with support but so far no success. I would like to know if anyone else is getting the same error.

The only difference between the Workstation and Notebook Policy is that the option " Configuration for Secondary location has been activated on Notebooks". Also only Windows 7 based Notebooks are affected. At present the number of affected Notebooks has numbered to 140.

The ole23.dll reregistration did not help.

Any shares are welcome and help appreciated.

Kind Regards

AK

  • Hello AK,

what's your method for location detection - DNS or MAC-address?

    Christian

  • Hi Christian,

DNS is the method i am using.

I have also made a new Group and used "Gateway MAC-address" for location detection, still get the same error.

  • Hello AK,

as I've seen this only once and quite some time ago I fear I can't be of much help. Vaguely remember that back then the install was not complete, dunno what was required besides a reboot (might have been just an extra reboot). I assume we're talking about the current SCF version (2.9).

Can you configure SCF on the client?

    Christian

  • hum, i just resurrected an old topic for the same: /search?q= 9439

pls close whichever topic is less appropriate.

PS, QC .. with my client, I've rebooted him twice, and it still didn't go through

  • Hi IK,

THe problem posted in the topic is not what i have. Everything is working as it is supposed to.  The Policy is being applied correctly and no traffic is being blocked. Therefore I suggest running both topics as tehy address two different issues.

    Kind Regards

  • Hello AK,

do I understand correctly that policy changes are applied on the clients, i.e. the settings take effect? Do you get the error when you change the policy or only at startup?

    Christian

  • HI Christian,

Policy changes are applied correctly on the Clients. There are no errors shown on the Notebook neither when Policy changes nor at startup. The error is only shown on the Sophos EC.

    To your earier Post:

Reboots didn't help. I know it sounds dumb but did it almost 6 times.

FIrewall Version is 2.9.1 and yes i can configure the Firewall.

    Kind Regards

  • Hello AK,

if the timestamp on the error is not recent it suggests it was transient (i.e. probably occurred before the final reboot after install). Guess you should be able to acknowledge it from the console (right-click on the client -> Alerts und Fehler löschen). If it doesn't come back that's it.

  • Hi QC,

trust me, i am throught with all such checks. After a while the Error comes back.

    Kind Regards

  • Hello AK,

I did not imply that you haven't checked or don't know what you have to do :smileywink:. For one thing, mentioning the obvious does no harm (but omitting it can do). And others reading the thread might anyway benefit. What puzzles me is that there isn't any error in SCF's system log.

Well, that's about all I can say. I've jogged my memory - the very few times I've encountered this error it was always transient (on one occasion I had to uninstall/reinstall but I was doing forbidden things during a Beta test so this isn't significant). By and by Support should have more time again to look into this issue.
