Application Control, Patch Assesment, Web Control on Macs

Do Application Control, Patch Assesment, Web Control managed by Enterprise Console work on the Macs?

I believe the Macs do not currently support these, please confirm?

If they don't is there any plans to support these in the near future?

The reason being is because we are about 50/50 Pc/Mac Network. On one side of the room (pcs) i can control applications like Spotify, Itunes etc. stopping any media streaming and Torrent, instant chat, on the oposite side of the room (macs) the Mac users are consuming our bandwidth with Media Apps and we have to inspect machines we suspect may be using programs we ban for example Torrent apps.

  • Hi,

Sophos plans to match features which are available on Windows Endpoints with Mac Endpoints. Although I can't give timescales for other features, Application Control is next on the list. There will be further details closer to the time of release.

    Thanks,

    DK

  • I'll chime in with my enthusiastic interest in expanded features for the Mac client as well.

We're also about 50% Mac these days, but that number keeps climbing.  I'm constantly being asked what features are supported on the Mac, and having to give some rather disappointing answers.

It's good to hear that Application Control is on the way...  But we're really looking for feature parity with the Windows client.

  • Enterprise console management for MAC OS?

Following is a list of policies, (sent to me by sophos support), that do not support on Mac OS X:
    Firewall
    NAC
    Application Control
    Data Control
Device Control (will come with v9.1)
    Full Disk Encryption
Tamper Protection (will come with v9.1)
    Patch
    Web Control

  • The list is correct, I should point out that NAC is being retired at the end of August this year.

Web control wil be in beta in our Cloud product soon, we are also looking at application control, but do not have dates for further additions. It is our ambition to being Windows and Mac into parity but this will be focussed on the Cloud managed endpoints rather than on-premise at this stage.

  • We've published the following KBA to clarify the supported SEC endpoint policies for different platforms.
