Application Control - Categories - Any recent changes made by Sophos?

HI,

all of the sudden on Wednesday an Application named "XnView" used in our Organization was blocked by Application Control.
From our side no changes were made. Unfortunaley the Audit feature is not available yet, otherwise I could have mailed it.

The only thing that sounds plausible to me ist that the the Categories have been reassigned. For example Xnview  was before in the Category  "Digital Imaging" and now in the Category "Tools to convert Media". Again this is onyl assumption, i don't know if this really happened. Good thing is that i can reproduce the problem.

We have Citrix PVS and the workaround we use is explained here:

http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/12561.aspx

Unfortunately as per Support there is no way to force Policy update once the Server boot from from the source Disk. Also we had to use the "Synchronise with AD" option since there is no other way to push the Server in the designated group. Those of you who work with Citrix PVS know what i am talking about. If you have other workarounds or problems please do mention.

So when the Server boot each day, we have to push the polices otherwise XenView is blocked. Now here are few simple questions:

1)

The list must be saved localy on the Server somewhere in some form, where can I find it. This might help me find the reason why the application is being blocked at all.

2) Has anybody find trick or workaround to push/ get the policies per script etc.

3) Has anybody had somewhat similar Problem (timeframe  Tuesday - Wednesday)?

Thank you for any inputs.

Kind Regards
FK

  • HI Christian,

    >As for making the client (endpoint) request the policies at startup

I will give it a try and see if it would work with CItrix PVS Streamed Server.
It would though take some time until next image update.

    Kind Regards
