Enterprise Console Computer Detail history

In our environment we recycle old computer names with the new computers we image. When we remove an old computer from our domain environment we always delete the computer from Sophos enterprise console. What we’’’’ve been noticing is when we add an old computer name to a new computer to the enterprise console, the history of the previous computer shows up in the computer details. Is there any way to delete the history of computer when you delete it from the enterprise console?

  • Hello jeff,

as you have noticed, delete does not remove the computer from the database and is somewhat misleading (SCC used the term hide but this too wasn't a perfect description). The rationale is that you might want to keep the historical data (note that the alerts and events associated with a deleted computer won't be taken into account for reports and statistics but they are still kept). If you actually delete a computer from the database its alerts and events will also be gone forever.

Looks like you are not interested in historical data at all - but you should be aware of the consequences. If you do a search for delete from computersanddeletedcomputers you'll get a number of threads about manipulating (it's not a supported course of action) the database in this respect and points to consider when doing so.
