Sophos on computer inactive

I need some help with getting Sophos actived to run a scan of my computer.  Right now it is listed on my computer as inactive.  When I go into the control console everything is greyed out.  When I checked the services, the anti-virus service was stopped.  I clicked to start it again, but it will not start.  Could someone please help me on this one?  I may have a virus on the machine, I'm not sure though.

    Hello,

    in general your IT-support should be able to help you. Where did you get Sophos from?

    Nevertheless - which version (Sophos and OS) do you have, when was Sophos installed and when did you notice it is inactive? Has anything else happened that makes you think you might have a virus? Can you still access the updating logs? If the service fails to start (or quits immediately afterwards) there's usually one or more entries in the Application Event log (eventvwr.msc ). These would help to diagnose the problem.
