OSX - Delaying AutoUpdate on Startup

We have a number of labs where it was determined to be best to delay the AutoUpdate on startup feature (login times and the like).  Using the 'Disable Sophos AutoUpdate from Running on Startup' article (27646) we were able to do this on Windows.

However I can not find something similar for OSX.

Anyone have suggestions for how we can delay the auto update for 5 minutes or so on OSX machines?

    The Mac endpoint does not have this feature. Maybe we should try to fix the root cause of the problem. Is it simply an issue of all the machines hitting the network simultaneously? Or is there something more complex going on in your lab?
