Installation Error 3051 - fail when trying to create machine account

Hi All, I have an issue when trying to install Sophos Client v9 onto our Read Only Domain Controllers. The error is that the installation is unable to create the machine account SophosSAU<machineName>

This account doesn't exist and even if I create it manually, it still fails with the same error. If I try and install and choose a service account created specifically for the Sophos Updates, it still tries to create this account? We currently have 40+ servers unprotected and I can't see what the issue is. If the installation needs to have this account, why doesn't it see it when it's created manually (password or permissions?)

I've tried running as admin, installing locally and from console, copying the account from another non RODC account. I don't know why this is failing as I have Domain Admin rights...

Any pointers will be gratefully received.

TIA

Remiego

  • The goods news - if you've resolved it for one it likely applies to all.

The bad news - if you've already tried to pre-set the account (as mentioned in the second article) I have no idea at the moment. But having 40+ servers unprotected warrants without doubt a call to Support.
