Enterprise Console doesn't install on Windows 7?

Gents,

I have been using Sophos Enterprise Console on Windows XP Professional for ages, but I've just come to install Windows 7 Home Premium on the machine instead.

When I log in to the "Downloads and Updates" page, it offers me: "Endpoint Security and Control", "Step 1: Download Enterprise Console" and says "Install on Windows Server 2003/2008/2008 R2 440MB | v4.7".

If I download that, then it unpacks, and tells me "Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium not supported".

All the docs I can find online seem to suggest that Enterprise Console should run on Windows 7 just fine. Am I downloading the wrong version or something? I can't see any way to get anything other than the "Windows Server 2003/2008/2008 R2" version.

I'm probably doing something very stupid here (googling has failed to find any reference to the error message which suggests that this isn't a common error), but any hints you can give would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Robin

  • Hello Robin,

    there's just this one download. And it works perfectly on any decent Windows 7 version. It's just the Home (Premium or whatever, Home is Home) version that it won't run on - you couldn't install it on XP Home either.

  • Hi,

    That should be fine for a remote console.  Of interest is:

    /search?q= 95

    You culd try setting the property:

    OVERRIDECHECKS=TRUE

    if it is a platform problem but it should be ok, I've used a remote console on Win 7 pro.

    Cheers,
