Problems with Update Manager... Clean install?

Hi

Long story short, a while ago Sophos mixed up our online account with another company who had the Sophos Enterprise protection (we have SBE with SCC). I checked the website and inadvertently downloaded the Enterprise version with the Enterprise console (which worked funnily enough!). As time went on suddenly updates stopped and this was the cause... So I had to painstakingly revert back to the older SCC console, there were problems with the database etc.

Anyway, recently I've been getting errors that Update Manager fails to update itself.

"Sophos Update Manager failed to update product release Payload-SDDM with version 32.55..."

When looking though the installer log files in C:\Windows\Temp the installer seems to fail with:

"Error 25008.WaitOnLockedFile: Cannot open file C:\Program Files\Sophos\Update Manager\SUMAdapter.dll A Windows API call returned error 3" -> This directory and file doesn't even exist!

Looking through the log file, it also seems to report the install dir as "C:\Program Files\Sophos\Update Manager" but for SBE SCC it isn't... it's "C:\Program Files\Sophos\SCC\SUM"

Could it be because there are still entries for the Enterprise Console messing up SCC?

If so, is it possible (does a removal tool exist?) to do a clean install of Sophos?

Many thanks

Aaron

  • I would try calling your reseller or Sophos directly I suppose and ask them to ask Sophos on your behalf about using SEC 5.1 as there is an upgrade path to SEC 5.1 from SCC 4.  I'm pretty sure this is a free upgrade since the licence changes.
