EC 4.7: Exporting or printing a Device Control-Exclusionlist

Hello,

we use Device Control in parts of our network to protect machines from illegal mass-storage devices (USB-sticks, cameras, mobile HDDs and so on)

The basic functionality is sufficient for our desktop-installations.

However, there is one thing that I miss: For documentation purposes, it would be good to be able to print the list of excluded devices or export it into txt, csv or pdf.

How do others document the devices they exclude from the policy?

This is both a question both for Sophos staff (hey, I really want this feature ;-) and for the community - I don't believe that I am the only guy who needs documentation.

Best regards,

Detlev

  • Hello Detlev,

a question both for Sophos staff (hey, I really want this feature ;-)

for your convenience here's the standard Feature Request Template which Support would send you:

    Name:

    Company name:

    Email address:

    Product:

    Product Version:

    Suggested feature Summary:

How will this new feature address your business requirements?

How important would this feature be to your business?
(scale of 1 to 4 with 1 being being critical)

I've omitted the final paragraph which assures you that it will be read carefully but don't expect to hear from them but thanks for taking your time writing it :smileyvery-happy:. Seriously - there's no formal status available to the customer (like accepted or rejected)  and usually you will not be informed if and when it will be implemented. You will get a response though if you could make it look important but the feature can not be implemented "soon". You might also be contacted for clarification or a more detailed description.

In the meantime you could export the policies (with exportconfig) and extract the relevant information from the XML.

  • Christian, thanks for the reply - you made my day :smileyvery-happy:

However, exporting the XML and reformatting the output is a solution, but not much better than pasting screenshots together.

    Best regards,

    Detlev

Just tried it with Excel 2003 - just a few clicks and you have a rather nice table - sure beats shooting screens and pasting the carcasses.

  • Well, any of you compile standalone sophos installer.  in that how to there is a exporting of which policy and group you can export which later allow your stand alone installer to have such policy?  with that export can't we import it??

  • While you can import the policy on a client this way you can't import it to the console (and no longer successfully use central management for Device Control).
