Enterprise console does not start on new system

Hello,

Windows Server 2008 R2 Std (evaluation version only) which is deployed as a VM. the server is domain member only and is a complete fresh installed system.

I installed Sophos Enterprise Console 5.21 with the file sec_521r2_sfx.exe successfully, but the Enterprise Console doesn't start and shows the error:

Sophos.UIController.Extension.UIControllerException: Cannot retrieve session token after 8 retries. Please check that the Sophos Management Host service is running, otherwise see KBA 118513.
   bei Sophos.UIController.IdentityServiceAbstracter.EndRetrieveSessionToken()
   bei Sophos.UIController.UIControl.InitializeModulesDependencies()
   bei Sophos.UIController.UIControl.<Initialize>b__b()
   bei Sophos.UIController.Product.Logging.LogMethod(MemberInfo method, Action func)
   bei Sophos.UIController.UIControl.Initialize()

----- [outer exception] -----
   -- error: 0x80004005 (Unknown error)
   -- facility: Generic (System)
   -- source:   Sophos.UIController

   at int __cdecl Run(int,class bl::CommandLine,enum bl::ConsoleType::Type)
   at int __stdcall wWinMain(struct HINSTANCE__ *,struct HINSTANCE__ *,wchar_t *,int)

 This error message is shown in KBA 118513. Unfortunately the solutions which are proposed there doesn't work for my system.

  1. Restarting the console a couple of times and even restarting the server didn't help.
  2. Service 'Sophos Management Host' is running.
  3. 'SophosSecurity' (Auditing database) is working and can be accessed.
  4. Service 'Sophos Management Host' is started by the same Windows account by which it has been installed.
  5. HTTP service is accessible for each ip  0.0.0.0 .
  6. The server isn't concern by this issue. I can't find any of the error messages in those two logs.

So what can I do now?

Some additional information:

We have already a running installation of the Sophos Enterprise Console in the same network, but it's a different Windows domain. So, it's for testing purpose only, because we want to move to new servers in a new Windows Domain. The old servers should be repealed afterwards. This new Windows domains is created by SAMBA4.

Thanks,

Peter

  • Are you attempting to launch Enterprise Console as a domain user from the Samba domain?

    If so, does it work if you use a local account on the management server?  Using an account which is a local administrator will save adding the user to the specific SEC groups.

    Samba isn't oficially supported as a directory service by Enterprise Console, AD is the only one supported but local accounts should be fine and this would at least prove the configuration of SEC is correct.
