SUM Secondary update?

Wonder if anything can help me with setting up some redundency with Sophos updates.

Currently I have an enterprise console installed in main office. All desktops, servers and laptops (including remote users) update from here. I have tried getting the secondary update source as Sophos configured but it never works. If I install a SUM on another server at the main office that is configured to keep up-to-date and the clients can use as a secondary update if the primary EC server fails will this work?

Or does the SUM still require direct communication with the Enterprise Console?

  • Hello RougueViper,

Sophos as secondary should work - though as RMS won't be downloaded from Sophos you will get "updating failed" for managed computers. If this is your "never works" you can simply ignore it.
A secondary SUM updating from Sophos doesn't need the primary to be on-line. It would provide the alternate location.

  • Hi Christain,

I think the Sophos secondary updating fails because the credentials have not been configured in the updating policy. I know the account username but not the password (username taken from the update managed source details). This is something I have inherited and no one apparently knows the password.

Is there any way of extracting the Sophos account password from the Enterprise Console?

  • Hello RogueViper,

while it is technically possible to extract the password it is not the recommended way. You need the password also for software downloads from Sophos - how did you do this? If it is really not known contact your sales rep to get a copy of your license details.
