Sophos locking up PCs

We are having numerous PCs (XP SP3) which freeze up and we are unable to use the admin share to connect remotely yet we can see the event logs / services remotely.

"RPC is unavailable" when trying to access the admin share.

I thought perhaps I read that the Web Intelligence filter or the Updater engine might be causing our issues but I need to know how to track these issues down and either identify the issue or rule out sophos.

Is there anything we can do?

  • I stopped all the services, tested the admin share, then restarted tall of them with no luck.  The one PC I'm working on seems to have gotten worse now as trying to open the event logs again is EXTREMELY SLOW!!!!  My screen whitened out as if the Application was not responding.

Saw this pop up in the event log.  Not sure if it's related:

"Event 7 Kereros: The kerberos subsystem encountered a PAC verification failure.  This indicates that the PAC from the client ### in realm ### had a PAC which failed to verify or was modified.  Contact your system administrator."

I'll play with a couple more machine tonight and see if I can replicate the issue

    Any other thoughts?
