OS X 10.6.8 and Sophos Endpoint AV v.8.07 Hangs on Login

There are several iMacs and Mac Pros using Sophos v.8.07 that hang during user login.  We first observed this problem in our computer labs, and more recently it has been affecting our Staff and Faculty.  The computer boots as normal, and presents the user login screen.  On login, the desktop loads and then the spinning beach ball of death spins forever.  We've narrowed down the problem to SOPHOS.  When we uninstall the Sophos Client, everything works as expected again.  When we reinstall the Sophos client, it hangs on login.  We need help fixing this problem as it's spreading to among our end users.  Any advice? Please help!

    And to clarify since I was typing too fast, we are reinstalling Sophos and then it should only update to 8.0.6. We called Sophos tech support and they verified that this was the only workaround. They have no ETA as to when a fix will be released. This a pain to have to uninstall and re-install Sophos on ALL of our Macs with 10.6.8. It's really unacceptable in my opinion.
