Sophos Enterprise Console 5.1.0.1839

Is there a way to set the polling of servers by machines - at preset the polling is set for 10 minutes , is there a way to set this to random

  • HI,

I assume, you are talking about the update interval of AutoUpdate and checking for updates from the distribution location?

The interval is kind of random as it's related to when the AutoUpdate service starts.  The schedule is then based off of that.

  • We are looking for a way to update new engines randomly , we have  several sites with limiter bandwidth connections and when the engine updates occur , the response over the link is affected .

  • Hi,

I guess there are a few options for such a scenario..

    1. Your main site (Enterprise Console server?) pushes a distribution point (CID) to the remote site for the local clients to update from?
    2. You have an installation of SUM at the remote site that pulls an update to the remote site for the clients at the site to update from?
    3. All clients update accross the low bandwidth link?
    4. Have a script, copy a distribution point to the remote site, e.g. Robocopy type job.

Which one do you have setup?

Do you use fixed packages for 3 months, rather than use the recommended verison to save bandwidth?

    Regards,

  • Hi,

If you have a Windows server at the sites with low bandwidth connections, I would suggest installing an additional Sophos Update Manager (SUM) at them.

You can subscribe to a fixed version of Endpoint Security and Control, i.e. choose a specific version rather than Recommended and have that pull down a local distribution that all the clients update from locally.  This way the files are only pulled down to the site once, rather than each client requesting them.

You can have that remote SUM, update either from the main site (over HTTP or UNC, depending on how you make the Warehouse available) or have it just update from Sophos.

This is one setup possibility to minimise downloads at the sites.

    Regards,

    Jak
