Insufficient rights. Contact your administrator. WINDOWS VISTA

I installed Sophos. Weeks later I created a new user account on my laptop and deleted the original. Now I can do anything in Sophos, like delete virus etc etc. Even worse, I can not uninstall the program. Can someone help me. I am the administrator of the laptop. After googling this, I found out I need to be a "SophosAdministrator" as well, but could not find anywhere saying how to do that in Windows Vista. Is there any solution for this without having to reinstall Windows???

  • Hi,

If you right click on "My Computer" or "Computer" can you choose "Manage"?  If so you should be able to access "Local users and groups", if you then go into "Groups", you should then see the group "SophosAdministrator".  You should be able to add your account to that group.

As a command line method you could:

    1. Open a command prompt as administrator. Right click on CMD.exe and choose "Run as administrator" if needed.

    2. Type:

    net localgroup /add SophosAdministrator Test

Where "Test" is the name of the user you wish to add to the SophosAdministrator group.

    3. Hit enter.

Note: If you uninstalled Sophos and reinstalled, it would add all administrators to the "SophosAdministrator " group also.

    Regards,

    Jak
