Updating Error - Could not contact Server

Hi I was wondering if someone could possibly help,

I have just downloaded SOPHOS 10.0 through university however cannot update due to this error. I'm not quite sure if my proxy details are correct. Also unsure about the primary username, there is a message in the updating policy saying "If the username needs to be qualified to indicate the domain, use the form domain\username." Don't know whether my username has to be qualified and what the domain name incorporates.

The updating log shows 3 errors;

Message: ERROR:   Could not find a source for updated packages
Module: ALUpdate

Message: ERROR:   Download of Sophos AutoUpdate failed from server ...(my university server)
Module: CIDUpdate

Message: ERROR:   Download of SAVXP failed from server ...(my university server)
Module: CIDUpdate

I could try updating whilst on campus, directly connected to the internet there if you believe this would help.

Any help is much appreciated. Cheers, Ryan

  • Hello Ryan,

    I fear none of us can help you there directly. Only your university can tell you the required credentials, from where (i.e. on-campus or globally) the server is accessible and whether you need a proxy or not.

  • I thought that might be the case. The reason I asked was because they think due to lack of staffing that they cannot respond to individual problems but I'll see what I can do.

    Thanks for taking the time to respond.

  • Hello Ryan,

    even if they are understaffed - who isn't these days? - the information I talked about can only be provided by them (by whatever means). At least one has to know where it's supposed to work and where - perhaps - not. BTW: can you actually enter credentials?
