Configuration recommendations for IIS web servers

Is there a list of configuration recommendations (what to include/exclude) for Windows servers running IIS, especially those running .NET applications?

  • Hi,

Unless there are very large files being served up by the machine I can't think of anything specific you would want to exclude from on-access scanning.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943556  has one article linked from IIS which you may consider.  Other server roles specify far more exclusions as linked from that article; so if the machine is also performing those roles you may want to consider following the advice there.

I assume the box you have in mind is purely the front end and the databases are localed on another machine?  Maybe a SQL Server elsewhere.  If it implements a local DB, you may want to consider some exclusions on frequently changing files for example.

Unless you notive signifant slow downs after installing AV software, you should be ok.
