Deploy Sophos endpoint client without firewall?

Can I deploy the client with the anitivirus component only?

We manage the Windows firewall quite nicely via Group Policy.

Besides the fact that I see others have had problems with the firewall (which may or may not affect us)...

I also see (though given the date, I would guess this has changed) that it may not work with 64 bit OSes anyway:

  • Hello D_M,

per default SCF is not installed. When using Protect Computers you have to request it explicitly (by checking the applicable box) and if using the GUI or setup.exe you'd have to explicitly request it as well. As an aside, it does work with 64bit OSs from WinXP Pro SP1a and up.

  • Thank you for those clarifications (just getting back to this).

I've just imported groups from Active Directory.

Now, the Management Console will not attempt to perform any action on these computers until I complete the " Protect Computers" wizard for the group in question, correct?

That's my assumption after going through the wizard and seeing I need to enter credentials of a user account with admin privileges to install anything. And I do see that the firewall option is unchecked by default.

  • Hello D_M,

import (as opposed to sync) does not perform any action on the imported computers, correct.
