Sophos Endpoint Security and Control 9.5 migration

Hi,

Apologies if this has been covered already, I have searched and can't find anything specifially relating to my question.

We have Sophos Endpoint Security and Control 9.5 which we deploy using Sophos Enterprise Console 4.5.1.0 and we would like to move it on another server.  I can't find any articles specifically covering this, only migration during upgrades and we're not in the position to upgrade at the moment.  With this in mind, can anyone help by pointing me in the direction of documentation covering this or any experiences you may have had would be great.  The biggest issue we're facing is backing up the settings / config.

Thanks for any help,

Ben.

  • Hi,

    Looking at:
    http://www.sophos.com/support/docs/Enterprise_Console-all.html

    You need:
    "Migration guide"
this is for same version to same version.

Ensure you just use the SEC 4.5 installer.  Section 5 says you need to download SEC 4.7 but you just need your SEC 4.5 installer or the contents of the SEC_45 directory in the root of your C: drive (I would think) on your existing SEC machine.  You can use the ExportPrivateStore.exe file of 4.7 that doesn't matter.

The main things to have backed up from the original server are:

    1. a backup of the database (recommend running backupdb.bat (\program files\enterprise console\db\) to create a SOPHOS45.bak file)
    2. a backup of the certauthstore registry key.  Note: I would also backup the entire "hklm\software\sophos\" key to be safe to a separate file.
    3. a backup of the privatestore to an xml file. e.g. privatestore.xml  (ensure that you run ExportPrivateStore.exe as SYSTEM using PSEXEC to do this)

From those 3 things you can reinstall the current configuration on any machine.  I would get those 3 things backed up before doing anything.  Worse case being that if you call Support with those they can recover your install or move it.

    Regards,

    Jak
