Downloading Endpoint Security and Control Client Software

Hello everyone,

My team is new to using Sophos. As a part of our Windows 2008 R2 server standup process for several new systems, our client is asking us to install Sophos Endpoint Security and Control version 10.3 which is what they are currently using. However, their IT department hasn't been able to figure out how to package up the client software and send it to use to include in our build. I don't see this software available for download on the homepage. I have a few questions and would appreciate your advise:

  1. Is Endpoint Security and Control named something else that is publicly available for download or do I need a license on my profile in order to download?
  2. Is the client install package not useful without the Enterprise Console (i.e. cannot be installed)?
  3. Can the client install package be extracted and sent or can it only be deployed via the Enterprise Console?

Thank you for your assistance.

  • Hi,

The endpoint software can be deployed in a number of ways.

There is the standalone installers (from the downloads page on the website once logged in, you associate your licence credentials with a MySophos account).  These install Sophos Anti-Virus (SAV), AutoUpdate (SAU) and optionally Sophos Client Firewall (SCF). These installations are for unmanaged installs.

There are the CIDs (Central Installation Directories), more recently referred to as Distribution Points.  These are maintained by Sophos Update Manger (SUM) which is configured via Sophos Enterprise Console (SEC). You can see a list of these from SEC, via View - Bootstrap locations. These contain the software for your licence, E.g, SAV, SAU, SCF, PATCH, etc.  You control the versions of the products in these locations through the use of subscriptions.

You can install from these distribtution locations, either via a push from SEC (creates a schedule task on the endpoint to run setup.exe from the CID) or a manual pull by running setup.exe.  Setup.exe takes a number of switches. http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/12570.aspx to help with automation.

The other option to packaging up an install is to use the Sophos Deployment Packager utility, mentioned in http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/67504.aspx.  This allows you to select the compoents of a CID you wish to deploy and create a self extracting exe.

For including software in a disk image, see http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/12561.aspx.

    Regards,

    Jak
