What to install to protect the server running the Management Console?

I'm in the process of installing the Management Console on a server.

I've removed the previous antivirus software that was installed - usually running two AV on the same machine is not recommended.

Now, should I install the Endpoint client on this machine individually or designate it as one of the computer to be protected... and have it install the software more or less automatically as for the clients?

Management Console version is 5.1

Server is W2K3 SP2

  • Hi,

You can use Enterprise Console to protect the server as you would any other endpoint.  I.e. Create a group, move the server into it and protect it.

Otherwise, you can manually bootstrap it by running setup.exe from the distribution point (sometimes called CID).  The CID is typically:

    \\[Server]\SophosUpdate\CIDs\S000\SAVSCFXP\setup.exe

But you can check "View-Bootstrap Locations..." in the console if you have multiple subscriptions.

Both methods will essentially call setup.exe, SEC will pass it the switches required when it creates the scheduled task to call it, otherwise you can specify them on the command line or use the GUI if you run setup.exe interactively.
