Enterprise Console 5.2.1 released

The latest version of the Enterprise Console is now available for download, the main changes  are detailed below, for detail on fixed issues and other changes please see the release notes: http://downloads.sophos.com/readmes/sec_521_rneng.html

Configureable Filter

A new option has been added to the filter view list which enables customers to manage only computers affected by a specific detected item. A new “Configure Filters” option has been added to the Tools option enabling entry of the detected item name, wildcards are supported when entering the name.

Last Logged on User

A new column has been added to the computer list view (under the Computer Details tab) and also in the Computer Details. This reports on the last logged on user, a couple of points to note:

  • Last logged on User information is only sent to the console via RMS if there is a status message returned to the console. User logon and logoff events do not trigger sending status messages.  This means that if a user is logged on and there are no status messages while logged on the “last user” details will not be updated.
  • In a typical environment the assumption is that SEC is receiving several updates per day and so last user information would normally be up to date.
  • Due to privacy regulations in certain countries the display of last user details can be disabled via a registry key (http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/119239.aspx)

Windows 8 Remote Console Support

SEC 5.2.1 supports Windows 8 platform for Remote Console access.

Subscription information

  • Fixed versions are no longer available in SEC, you will only see fixed versions if you currently have a subscription to one before you upgrade to SEC 5.2.1, when you remove this subscription the fixed version will disappear.
  • A warning will be shown each time the subscription dialog is opened where there is a fixed version in use. As soon as the fixed version is unsubscribed it (the fixed version) will disappear, the dialog will no longer appear when all fixed versions are unsubscribed.
  • The option to stay on a fixed version even after Sophos has re-subscribed it to a newer version has been removed.
  • SUM no longer has fixed versions, oldest or previous tags available.
  • "Oldest" tagged versions are not supported, you will no longer see versions tagged with "Oldest" in the SUM subscription interface

Upgrade behavior

If you have a subscription to any of the following then the upgrade to SEC 5.2.1 will fail with an appropriate message:

  • Extended maintenance oldest
  • Oldest

You will need to remove these subscriptions before the upgrade will succeed.

  • Hi Azwan,

I assume the change you refer to in the "readme" for 5.2.1 (http://downloads.sophos.com/readmes/sec_521_rneng.html) is:

    • (DEF86614) Slow console behavior when the console is managing thousands of groups.  Database queries have been optimized to improve the response.

This is a specific fix aimed to speed up group information retrieval.  This slowdown in SEC was only seen when thousands of groups were used, typically due to an Active Directory import that perhaps wasn't tidied up.

The fix would equally apply to a local or remote database.

    Regards,

    Elmo
