SOPHOS Endpoint client never finishes install

I have a windows 7 (service pack 1) client that had been installed via Management console (4.0) prior to my endpoint 9.7 upgrade roll out.  However, a message for that client indicated that endpoint install had not completed.

So I have attempted to reinstall the endpoint 9.7 via mangement console multiple times but it never appears to complete (the hourglass never goes away).  But the enpoint 9.7 client appears to be up and runing on the client.

How do I "force" completion?

  • Are the last message time for other clients being updated in a matter of moments?

Could it be that there is a backlog of messages waiting to be processed on the server?

Yet to be delivered messages, are persisted to disk in the "envelopes" directory, this is the same for the clients and on the server.

    "\programdata\sophos\remote management system\3\router\envelopes\"

If you check on the client, I assume there is nothing?

On the server is there a large number?

Can you trace the status message being sent from the client to the server from the router logs?

I would suggest upgrading to SEC 5.1 when possible also.

  • Here is an update

I updated to Enterprise Console 4.5 - No change, Workstation still never finished.

Enterprise COnsole 5.0 - No change, workstation still never finished.

The error continued to be "Computer has not reported back"

So I turned off the firewalls, then it worked!

any ideas on How to trouble shoot firewall settings?

  • Hi,

Looks like progress.  I would also suggest going to 5.1 for the chnages to the deployment method, it is more reliable at creating and running the scheduled task to install the software on the clients.

    Regarding the ports required:

    Server:

    Incoming 8192 and 8194 TCP  (RouterNT.exe)

    Client:

    Incoming 8194 TCP (RouterNT.exe)

Opening 8194 on the client is semi-optional but recommended as otherwsie you rely on the client polling the server for message being sent to the client from the server, this could delay downstream messages by 15 minutes (GetterInterval)

    Regards,

    Jak
