Sophos Update Manager password change question.

Extremely long story short, I am the new IT guy here and I don't know the SophosUpdateMgr password.  I found this article http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/65318.html but it refers to the Console version 4.0.  I have 4.5.1 (I want to resolve this before going to 4.7).  So my question is basically will those instructions work for my version of the Console, making the obvious changes (location of ObfuscationUtil.exe and the like).  Or am I going to have to get some "bad" tools and dehash/decrypt the password file in AD?  (<-- not real fond of this idea).  Or am I missing something else a whole lot simpler?  I know some of the old IT guys default passwords, but they don't work and are too short for the one on the SUM account.

Thanks for any help.

  • Hi,

You should just be able to create a new service account, and update the updating policies to use that  The new account should just have read access to the update share.  I.e. "SophosUpdate".

The old account will still work I assume for clients until they pick up the policy change.
