SEC 5.0 - Enable Device Control (Storage set all Blocked) All Printer Connected USB cannot print

I'm using SEC 5.0 to manage "Device Control" policy set to all Blocked. But printers connects to USB port cannot print/working. Please tell me how to block Storage devices without interrupt all my printers? Thasnks.

Lawrence

  • Hello Lawrence,

it's not clear (at least to me) what the actual symptoms are: Is Device Control "visibly" blocking the printers or do they "just not work".

Assuming you don't get any message - if you disable Device Control altogether do they work? Next step, enable DC, select Detect but do not block devices but leave Status as Blocked. If they stop working then it's detection which interferes. Otherwise clear the do not block and set Full access for all types. If the printers are still working block one type ofter the other until you find the one which causes the printers to be blocked (guess you don't have to work through all combinations, just blocking one more type should suffice - make sure it is only the last one by unblocking all others).

Funny that just a few hours before nLinked posted Sophos Enterprise 5 blocks USB drives on Windows 7 systems. Please take a look at that thread (specifically my reply there) what to do next (or - if the tests described above are not feasible - what to do instead).
