Opening attachments using office 2007 savservice cpu usage

Hi,

I have a problem where whenever an office attachment is opened using Outlook 2007 and say into Word 2007 it opens and then the screen is unresponsive for 20 seconds whilst the SavService process jumps up to 50% cpu usage (intel core 2 duo). Is there anyway of optimizing this or changing this as my boss is getting annoyed with it?

    Hi,

    Are you running Data Control on these machines?  If so, does disabling it help?  Does disabling any particular rule help?

    If you're not running databa control, if oyu temporarily exclude under on-access scanning settings:

    *.doc

    or

    *.docx

    does that help?  I'm just trying to get an understanding of the component causing the problem.

    I thought that was sort of a normal reaction.  Our computers are pretty slow, but maybe it's the software and it's the same everywhere.
