Scripted Uninstall of Sophos

Looking for a scripted uninstall of Sophos.  We have over 2000 endpoints at 420+ remote locations which are mainly POS systems running XP or Windows 7.  We can't take control of these systems to manually uninstall Sophos if problems arise (and they have).  I've talked to Sophos support about this and they don't have an uninstall script for Sophos 10.0 from what I've been told.

I've found all the MSIEXEC uninstall strings within the registry but running those remotely via PsExec does not work, not sure why.

I find it interesting that as good as Sophos is of uninstalling ever other major AV/EPP product on the market to install their product on an end-point, they offer no means (other than touch each endpoint manually) to uninstall their own product.

If anyone has any information that would help us, that would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Art

  • Hello Michael,

did you ever resolve your problem  Failed to inst all SAVXP: The MSI has failed. in April? I assume you didn't use "the script" otherwise you wouldn't ask for it. You did read today's post by ruckus in this thread, didn't you?

To re-emphasize: it's just a tool to save you repeated manual work. It just does what a manual uninstall does. If the error can't be resolved by an uninstall the script won't help (in the worst case it will even aggravate your problem).

That's not to talk you out of using the script. But first make sure the problem can really be solved this way. Manually uninstall from one client and check if you are able to reprotect it (using the same procedure you intend to use for the mass-reprotection). Then iff(sic!) you are confident that uninstall is the answer build the script as suggested in the mentioned article (109668 ). Even if you use just regedit finding the uninstall strings is rather simple: search the Uninstall tree for data   www.sophos.com.

I see you have meanwhile posted a follow-up. I'd say this is a registry permissions error (and if then one of the cases where you could make it worse). Please see here for a possible solution.
