SHH/Updater-B Fiasco Recovery Steps

Just thought a thread for just the recovery steps would be helpful as I'm sure this is a big mess for many of my IT brethren who will be burning the midnight oil on the cleanup.

Perhaps a Sophos engineer could chime in on:

- what to do about "Software Delivery failed" in Update Manager

- what to do about ALsvc.exe and ALUpdate.exe being detected / quarantined

- other steps?

  • @Zack: If you had Sophos set to delete quarantined items, then-

To repair Sophos: Follow the steps detailed by FreedomIT in the post above, dated Thu 20-Sep-2012 17:00.

To repair third party applications: I have not had the opportunity to work through this yet, as we have not had this occur corporately.  However, we also serve Sophos to our home users, as per our licence arrangement, and some of these users have deleted third party files.

My first guess would be to try and repair the application using Add/Remove programs.  I will update the thread when I have more to add.

Of course, this will not help for a large number of users in a corporate environment.  I hope someone posts up some information that will help you within this thread.  I feel your pain, if you are in this position.

    Regards,

    Steve
