Enterprise console FIND issues

the find feature (CTRL+F) seems a bit b0rked, as I search all hosts for a hostname I know exists, it returns results that aren't even close.

eg. search criteria CAON1WI08L0428 : results = CAON1WI05D0625 *and* CAON1WI05D0680

that's not even close - what is going on?

  • Hello chavez243,

you say it returns (or rather moves to) two non-matching entries but not the correct one (BTW: I know exists - you've found it in the console or you expect it to be there? Just asking :smileywink:). Unlikely that the "wrong" results have the search argument in the description though (and it's definitely not an IP address).

Any pattern and is it repeatable or do you get arbitrary results?

  • "i know exists" means I can find it myself if I work through the list.

the error is consistent - i just did another search and the result was way off - returned CATECV60 when the search string was caon1wi02l0464

I could maybe understand if it was off by a letter or number (although even my regex isn't that bad)...

Find was working previously though, maybe a few weeks back - it almost seems to coincide with another issue when the find dialog loses focus constantly and I have to repeatedly click the mouse on the box to get the focus back.  Seems to be happening every time the console refreshes...

I assumed that much - but better ask :smileywink:.

Right you are - it is broken. I click Errors on the dashboard and then use Find I get incorrect results. Once I sort by name it works. Switching between Errors and All brings sooner or later back the error. Find extracts the set of IDs for the matches from the [ComputerListData2] view and then cycles the "cursor" through this list. Looks like somewhere in the background there are "mappings" between ComputerID, its position (and visibility) in the list display (and whether it has been selected). Looks like Find relies on the mapping (and sort order) of the view when the console is opened. Sorting a certain (sub-)view appears to make it work. But all this is guesswork ...

So - you should give Support a call.

  • Hi Chavez243,

Please do contact support about this issue so we can investigate the problem.

I would also ask you to check to see if you have any filters (views) enabled or is it set to 'All Computers' when the error occurs?

    Cheers
