Help uninstalling Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac

Hello,

I recently installed Sophos Anti-Virus provided by my university's IT department. However, I've been getting kernel panic screen every time I start the computer since installation and it's been very frustrating. I'd like to uninstall the program to see if that's what's causing the problems I'm having.

I tried to look for the uninstaller in /Library/Application/Sophos Anti-Virus folder, but there's only the Scans folder and no uninstaller file. I tried to look for /Library/Sophos Anti-Virus folder but such folder does not exist. I tried using terminal to access /Library/Application Support/Sophos Anti-Virus folder but it says the folder does not exist. I can go to the folder through Finder, but not through the terminal.

I even re-downloaded the program and re-installed to no avail.

Any help is much appreciated.

Elise

ETA: I'm using Macbook Pro OS X 10.6 and Sophos Anti-Virus version 7.2.5, license provided by my university.

  • Hello Elise,

usually your IT department should provide this support (the package might even have been customized). Anyway you should find the Remove Sophos Anti-Virus.pkg in /[MacHD]/Library/Sophos Anti-Virus/.

  • Hello,

Like Elise, I was unable to find any removal tool in the folders you described. I am now unable to find the original download to reinstall in the hopes of getting the removal tool. Is there a list of components so I can manually remove the program?
