Limitations of Device Contol

Hi,

I have been experimenting with Endpoint Device Control. I have had it auditing and blocking storage devices. I was wondering if it is possible to audit and block all USB devices such as printers, scanners, webcams.

also, would be interested to hear how other people are using device control

Thanks

James

  • Hello James,

as you have seen Device Control covers only three types of devices. The main purpose is to control (unintentional and negligent) data transfer from (and to)removable devices and over network connections. Arguably data transfer also takes place with the types you mentioned - but a USB printer or scanner are unlikely to be carried around (although they could have an additional network connection) and streaming data over a webcam can hardly be called unintentional.

We do block storage devices on certain computers and generally block bridged network connections (both for security reasons and also because simultaneous connections can cause troubles).

  • Hi Christian,

Thanks for the quick reply. I thought that was the case but thought I would ask here in case I was missing something.

    Thanks
