COM surrogate

Hello,

I received a pop-up from Sophos Endpoint Security and Control asking about:

"COM surrogate

a new or modified application has requested network access

If you want to allow access to this application, you must add its checksum to the list of checksums that the firewall recognizes

O add the checksum to existing checksums for this application

O replace any existing checksum for this application

O block this application until it is restarted"

which one should I choose?

I tried to search online but a lot of forums and websites gave me mixed answers as to what this program is/if it is harmful.

also, on a different note, my AOL instant messenger stopped working around the same time that Sophos quarantined something called "divEA9A.tmp". I can no longer see text in the AIM chat boxes. Are these related? (This has never happened to me before and downloading/uninstalling and reinstalling AIM does not do a thing) I even allowed the file (divEA9A) to have access but it still didn't change my AIM.

Thanks for any help or information.

  • Yeah Idk, everything about this program was pretty terrible for me. I eventually deleted it and installed Microsoft Security Essentials (free and a great program). I still haven't found out what's making all my instant messaging programs not function. I feel like my computer has changed a lot since using Sophos and I can't pinpoint exactly where it went wrong. It slowed down my computer a lot, that's for sure. Also, upon deleting it I had to find every hidden file from Sophos and delete them a couple times. It was a migraine and a half. If you can find a better program, you might want to.
