How to pre-configure Sophos AV 8 for Mac OS X now that SUM no longer works

Forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere, but I'm hoping that someone can point me in the right direction.

In the days of SAV 7, i would use SUM (Sophos Update Manager) to maintain an updated build of sophos installer.mpkg.  SUM would allow me to configure preferences and audo-update credentials and would impart them onto its build of sophos installer.mpkg.  I would then distribute that version via my employer's secure web site for our licensed users.

After going back and forth with Sophos Tech Support for several months, it has come to light that SUM does not work for SAV 8 and is unlikely to in the future.  They recommended that I use Sophos Enterprise Console for this task.  I've installed and configured SEC.  It seems to be updating normally and giving me a repository with SAV 8 in it.  However, when I run that build of SAV 8, it's a vanilla installation with none of the preferences and account information that I configured in SEC.

So my question is this:

Is there a way to use SEC to build a sophos installer.mpkg that will include my chosen preferences and auto-update log in credentials? If so, how?  What am I missing?

I've read the forum article on how to do this manually, but I'd prefer a more automated approach.  Sophos Support says  that it can be done, but so far they haven't said how.

Thanks much,

  • Hello cohenj,

one of the threads you'll find if you search for com.sophos.sau.plist might help. If you've found a solution please post it here.

I'm not sure which thread you are referring to (and what automated means in this context). As mentioned in one of the posts I simply zip up the CID (with the custom plist in it) and this seems to do it.
