Upgrade fails with SQL error

I have 3 instances of SEC running at 3 sites, and while they should all have been identical upgrades (from 4.0 to 4.7) one site failed with the following installDB.LOG. The installer went through some rollbacks, warning me that I will need to re-run the installer. Now the installer fails with a statement that I need to fully removeUpdate Manager first. So I guess it was not a thorough rollback?

InstallDB SERVER2\SOPHOS SERVER2 SOPHOS47 InstallDB.log

Msg 945, Level 14, State 2, Server SERVER2\SOPHOS, Procedure From3To47, Line 34
Database 'SOPHOS3' cannot be opened due to inaccessible files or insufficient memory or disk space.  See the SQL Server errorlog for details.

Any ideas for recovery? Any danger in uninstalling manually from Add/Remove?

  • Hello  amcmis,

I then did indeed get the same issue

sorry I did not reply earlier - this was expected. There's a specific procedure for the upgrade from sourceVersion 3, 4, or 45. The installer should use the highest existing version.  It seems it has an issue here. If you are able to locate the advisor's output (Sophos_Upgrade_Assistant_Log.txt ) it should indicate server, instance, existing databases and the "correct" one from the DB connection string.

Question is - why does it think it has to upgrade from SOPHOS3 instead of SOPHOS4. It probably won't help just dropping the SOPHOS3 DB. So this has to be addressed first.

Your databases (which one do you have - SOPHOS3 and SOPHOS4?) should be intact. As long as you have a (recent) backup you can start all over. The exact steps depend on what's there and what's not.
