Sophos Anti-Virus Latest AV defs/version verification link

I am curious to know if there is a link somewhere on the Sophos website which displays the latest available Sophos AV , Threat detection engine versions on the website. I found a link which seems to have what I want <http://downloads.sophos.com/readmes/readsesc_90_eng.html> but I am not sure if this link is regularly updated.  Are the "Version numbers" in the document

regularly updated as and when new versions become available?

  • Thanks. That's the link from where I found the link I mentioned in my first post. The version numbers listed in the link you mentioned, appear to be a bit off from the latest available version. For e.g. the latest AV version appears to be 9.0.3, but the link suggests it to be 9.0.2. Also the "Threat detection engine" is not listed on that page. So I am wondering, if I was going to script this would it be safe to rely on the http://downloads.sophos.com/readmes/readsesc_90_eng.html for latest versions.

    Thanks in advance.

    Adam.

  • Hello Adam,

allow me to ask - what do you intend to do with the version information?

  • I would like to make sure that all my Sophos installs are running the latest Sophos AV, and threat detection engine versions. This is probably done using auto updating, but I had like to be sure. So what I have is a script which polls the Sophos website, once a month or so, extracts the latest version numbers from the website and then compares it with the version on my Sophos install. If the installed version is older, I manually update the software.

    Hope that makes sense.

  • Hello Adam,

with SUM and SEC you can be pretty sure you are up to date if all is green (guess SUM will even warn you when the source site is "stale"). Of course it happens that clients do not report correctly but these are "false negatives" so to say. And if the client updates from a stale CID the security center (WSC) will alert you after 35 days (I can confirm this).
Or do you not use central management (SEC/SCC)?

  • We do not use central management for some of these hosts running Sophos.

  • We are using SEC but want to see the clients that have failed to update properly reported by our management system KBOX. It gathers data similar to what is reported in Add/Remove Programs. That shows Sophos Anti-Virus version is 9.0.5 so where is that version information stored? I tried going to the file (C:\Program Files\Sophos\Sophos Anti-Virus\SavMain.exe) and it reports a Product Version of 9.0.3. Is there a Registry key with the version information?

  • I found a Registry key by searching for 9.0.5 but it looks like that path will change with every version:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\D414BCA974396B044A35E5BFD25BD9AF\InstallProperties\DisplayVersion
