5.1 Console: "An exception has occurred: Unknown configuration."

SBS2003.  Upgrade from 4.1 to 5.1.  Upgrade went well.  All clients are up to date, and error free.

First run through of installation, console runs fine.  Shut down the console, and subsequent launces give the above referenced error and the console won't start.

Re-run .\ServerInstaller\Setup.exe and then the console loads fine again.  Close it and subsequent launches again give the error and won't start.

Obviously, this is not an acceptable work around to leave it in this state.

Any ideas on a fix?

  • HI,

I wonder if the problem is just in the console itself, if it's a config setting it's complaining about that would more than likely be under:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sophos\

I don't have the console handy but there is a key called "Control Center" I belive under that.  These would get written out on the first close of the console so that might explain why it works once.

Maybe delete the above control center key, or even the one above and then try re-launching the console.

If that works, maybe post the values you have in the keys in the "broken" state so we can compare.

You could even try installing an additional console on another computer (pointing at the current management server, so you're only adding the console component). I wonder if that computer is ok?

    Regards,

    Jak
