Issue migrating SEC to new server

I'm following this guide to move SEC 5.0 to a new server: http://www.sophos.com/sophos/docs/eng/migration/sec_50_mgeng.pdf

I'm up to the end of page 17, where I need to run DataBackupRestore -Action=Restore -DataSourceType=SecureStore, and I'm getting the following error:

Build Started 1/18/2013 2:23:56 PM

There is an error in XML document (2, 2).

Build FAILED

Time Elapsed 00:00:04.98

I'm pretty stuck for ideas really. The old server is a Windows 2003 Server 32 bit and the new one a Windows 2008 R2 64-bit server. I followed the instructions when they went through changing paths due to the change to 64 bit. Only thing worth mentioning is that on both the old and the new server SEC is installed on a secondary drive (ie. not in the default location). Hopefully this isn't an issue because that's where I need it to be unfortunately.

  • Hello DeanF,

guess the secondary drive is not the standard location (i.e. %ProgramFiles% or %ProgramFiles(x86)%)? You are aware that DataBackupRestore is unsupported then?

Anyway - did the DataBackupRestore -Action=Restore -DataSourceType=database succeed? There are probably several XML files involved, but the message doesn't tell which. If you could run the above command then I'd assume that it's neither DataBackupRestore.exe.config nor Sec.xml. The file DBR would work with is SEC_SecureStore.bak which it expects to find in C:\ProgramData\Sophos\ManagementServer\Backup. But then I'd suppose the message to be specific (i.e. not found).

I suggest you call Support (they might have a hint even if it is "unsupported").
