Windows 7 Deployment fffffffd

Hi,

I am having trouble deploying sophos remotely to our Windows 7 Clients. Manual installation works fine but trying a deployment via Enterprise Console (4.7.0.13) seems to fail each time. The process looks normal but at the end the machines are still grey and I receive an error fffffffd .

The firewall on the clients in question is turned off.

I have also successfully communicated via telnet on ports 8192,8193,8194 from the client to the server.

Remote registry is running, not sure if any other services need to be turned on that are off by default in WIndows.

The clients in question have Windows 7 Enterprise 32bit running on them, up to date with SP1 and any other updates there after.

Any help or a poke in the right direction would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Tom

  • Hello Tom,

if you deploy to a client and then receive the error on SEC you should  check the client's updating log (which should be accessible at this point). As you've checked the RMS connectivity the install is perhaps incomplete (for whatever reason).

  • Hi Christian,

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately Sophos does not get that far. I checked in appdata for sophos logs but it hasn't produced anything. Programfiles is missing any Sophos related directories also.

    Many thanks.

  • Hello Tom,

might be that the install task did not start at all (although it was created). There are some posts about this in the forum (sorry, can't search right now as I have to leave). Initial logs should be in %windir%\Temp, BTW

  • Does it get as far as creating the install scheduled task on the client?

If you look in "\windows\tasks\" on the target client when you protect the machine is anything created?  Does it run if you look at it in the task scheduler? If it's created and does't run please see:

    /search?q= 14717

specifically the registry key to create on the management server then try again.

  • Hi,

I think I have managed to sort it. I did a search on the board as you mentioned you seen some posts regarding a similar issue and I have found out that I needed to add a registry entry on the Console server. What I added was this:

I added EnableTaskScheduler2 (Dword 32bits) to HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Sophos\EE on the server and that fixed it. So try this if anyone has the same issues that I have had.

    Thank you for your replies.
